Newsletter – Friday 10th September 2021

Firstly, apologies for having to cancel the family picnic planned for today but with the heavy rain forecast we decided it was better to make a quick decision. We’ve got lots of other exciting things coming up in the next few weeks, with a performance of Treasure Island next Tuesday for Years 1-6 by the same company that gave us The Wizard of Oz last year. We’re also looking forward next week to welcoming Ms Bailey back from her successful trip to Tokyo, where, as you will know, she won a Bronze Paralympic medal!

We are looking forward to sports competitions against other schools starting up again, with Y5/6 boys playing in a tournament today, and Y5/6 girls next Friday. Over the year there will be a whole range of events for children throughout school to participate in.

Congestion at the Gate and changes to pick procedures for Year 3 and Year 4 children

Most of you will have noticed the congestion outside the main gate. We have asked Holy Rood to ask their parents, where possible, to walk on the opposite side of the road to try and ease this.

Starting from next week if your child is in year 3 or 4 we are asking that you please walk up to the playground and collect your child from the school grounds to try and ease the pressure on the pavement. If you have signed a letter for your child in Year 3 or 4 to say that they can walk to the gate, children will be sent out on their own, so you will need to arrange where to meet them so that they don’t walk past. All other children will wait with a member of staff until a parent or other adult can be seen.

Street Closure

On the 22nd we have the School Street closure event in conjunction with Holy Rood, Joseph Locke and Barnsley Council. We will send more information out next week but it’s worth sharing in advance that Shaw Street from Racecommon Road to the war memorial will be completely closed to traffic on the 22nd and 23rd September.

On the 22nd our children will be having a day of activities based around healthy choices, road safety and the environment and we have some exciting visitors planned for the day. There will be entertainment and some activities on the road before school, and the staff car park will become an extra playground for the day!

Music Lessons

Finally, we have music lessons starting up again in school time – both the violin and keyboard teachers have spaces for new children from Y2 upwards now last year’s Y6 pupils have left school. Lessons cost £51 per term, keyboard hire is free as we have these in school but violin hire is £15 per term unless you have your own instrument. Please contact the office for more information.

As always, if we can help with anything, stop for a chat at the gate before or after school, phone or email or ask for a meeting – we’re always happy to discuss any issues, concerns or suggestions.
