Newsletter – Friday 23rd October 2020

We have finally made it to the half term break. I think we will all agree that it has been the strangest term we have ever had but by working together we have successfully opened to all our children. They have enjoyed spending time with their friends and catching up with some of the learning that they have missed. There is a sense of normality in school and the children are happy and feel safe.

Unfortunately we did have to close one bubble at the beginning of the week. We would like to thank parents for their support and understanding at this time, especially with the response we received from the remote learning. Children engaged well throughout and were patient whilst any teething problems were addressed. We are confident that if bubbles should have to close we have everything in place to ensure all children will still receive a good level of remote learning.

Indoor Shoes

After half term we will be asking all children from Year 1 to Year 6 to change into black pumps when they arrive in school. We have trialled not changing shoes this half term but as the weather is changing we are unable to keep the carpets and indoor floors clean. Children will be asked to take their outdoor shoes off in the cloakroom and put their indoor shoes on in the classroom.

Face Masks

We have received new guidelines from Barnsley School Alliance asking that all parents wear a face covering when dropping off and picking children up from school. Unless the guidance changes we will not be asking staff to wear these in school, or on the school gate, as we feel it is important for children to see us smile and reassure them as they are walking into school.

Christmas Cards – 9am Friday 6th November

Your child should have brought home the Christmas card designs that they have made. The deadline for orders is 9am on Friday 6th November, a payment request is now on the Gateway. If you have more than one child please order under each child’s name on the school gateway. Please send/email your order form to school before Friday 6th November so that we know the details of what you have ordered. We won’t be able to accept any orders after this time as due to the tight turnaround period with the company we have to submit our order straight away on that Friday. Please note in order to order a mug/coaster or gift tags you must also purchase a pack of cards.

School Dinners

Due to administrative work on the site you will be unable to pre-book dinners for next half term until Monday 2nd November. Please note the menu has now reverted back to the menu we had last year. There are just a few item changes but please see the attached menu for more details.

Poppies

We will still be supporting the Poppy Appeal this year by selling poppies and other items (pencils/pencil sharpeners/small rulers/rubbers/and reflective clip on poppies) during the first week back but we will be unable to sell them at the gate. If children would like to bring a donation for any of these items (the suggested donation for each item is 50p) please send the money in with your child and they will have the chance to buy them at break time throughout the first week back. Children will need to bring the correct money as it will go straight into the collection tin. The poppies this year are stick on poppies to make it easier for the children.

School closes for half term today and reopens on Tuesday the 3rd November. We hope you have a lovely rest and some quality time with your families and we will see you all back on Tuesday 3rd November.

Take care and keep safe.

We would like to remind you that if your child, or a member of your household, shows any of the symptoms of Covid-19 (a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss of/change in your normal sense of taste or smell) the government guidance states that you must all isolate until a test has been taken and a negative result received. If a positive result is received please inform school immediately.

For further information please take a look at the latest government guidance.
