Well the summer holiday didn’t seem to last long (to the school staff at least, not sure about some of the parents we spoke to yesterday morning!) It was a pleasure to welcome all the children back yesterday, and to see them coming in with big smiles on their faces, happy to see their friends again, meet their new teachers and get to try out some of the new playground markings we’ve had put in.
Everything ran very smoothly yesterday, with some things kept from last year-such as separate playtimes for KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 and some assemblies continuing to be online for the time being. We will also be asking children to come to school in their P.E. kits on the days that they have P.E. Some things have gone back to normal, such as all children eating in the hall again and the reintroduction of Friday assemblies in the hall to celebrate successes and give out certificates, with parents of children getting certificates being invited in.
Over the next few days you will be getting emails about linking to this year’s SeeSaw and Dojo accounts for your children. Another ‘keeper’ from Covid for us is that children will colour sections of a certificate in when they reach set numbers of Dojo points, and claim a prize from the prize cupboard when complete. The children all responded really well to this last year, and the staff thought it worked well. You might have seen that we have replaced our 6 R’s this year, with the 6 B’s. These are based on what we (and you) want your children to be. The 6 B’s are to be Happy, Safe, Caring, Healthy, Aspirational and Forward-Thinking. This half term we are looking at ways to be happy, and ways to make others happy.
Next Friday, weather permitting, we are intending to have our family picnic, which has had to be cancelled for the past two years. If you would like to attend, we will open the gates at 2pm, and we will bring all children onto the field to meet family or sit with their classes.
We have signed up to be part of a sports federation this year with Burton Road and 10 other Barnsley schools. Over the year there will be a wide range of events and competitions for our children to take part in. We are very excited about this, and it starts next Friday with a 7-a-side team of Y5/6 boys taking part in a football tournament at Oakwell.
Music lessons start again next week with Barnsley Music Service, please contact the school office for more information if your child would be interested in taking keyboard (Y2 and above) or violin (any age) lessons. Lessons take place during school time.
Over the next few weeks we have other exciting events in and around school, with a dance company coming to perform on the top playground next Thursday, a production of The Secret Garden on the 15th, and a day of clean-air activities on the 22nd to coincide with a localised road closure (more details to follow next week).
Over the next week or so we will be looking at reintroducing some after school clubs, which we will let you know about once they are decided, and we will also send out a full list of dates as soon as we can, including the all-important Christmas dates!
