School Newsletter – Friday 11th December 2020

Only 1 week left before we can all enjoy a well-earned rest with our families. We have had a great week of reindeer runs, a festive pantomime, Christmas jumper days and a Christmas dinner. Children are getting excited in the run up to Christmas and the teachers have some lovely activities ready for them to enjoy in their final week.

Rudolph Run for Barnsley Hospice

The Rudolph Run was a big success and the children had a great day. We raised lots of money for the hospice and would like to thank all those involved. A special thank you to Miss Hepworth and Miss Lindley for organising such a great event. The total raised so far (with all money going to the Hospice) is a staggering £6500 and we still have a few more contributions to come in! Barnsley Hospice will be extremely grateful for this donation and we would like to thank our families for getting involved to support such a worthy cause.

Food Bank

We have been overwhelmed by the response to the food bank collection and Mrs Athorn has already dropped off several car loads of food and drinks. The staff at the food bank have asked us to thank you all as it will help many families during these difficult times. If anyone would still like to contribute please can we have all donations in by Tuesday the 15th December so that it can be delivered on Wednesday in time for the Christmas break

Christmas Parties Dates

Tuesday 15th December – EYFS, Y1, Year 1/2, Year 2, Year 3, Year 3/4 and Y4

Wednesday 16th December- Year 5, Year 5/6 and Year 6

Christmas parties will be slightly different this year and children will be enjoying some games and fun in their classrooms. School will provide children with drinks and snacks to avoid food coming into school from lots of different households. Children can come dressed in their party clothes all day on the day of their party. Please bear in mind that children will still be playing outside at break and lunchtime so they will need suitable footwear and a warm coat

Carol Concert

Unfortunately our annual Christmas concert at the church has had to be cancelled this year but Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children will be taking part in a socially distanced concert outside on Thursday afternoon (weather permitting).

Please make sure that all children have a warm coat.

As we mentioned yesterday the DFE announced that schools may consider closing on Thursday 17th December.

We have made the decision that we will be opening as planned, as at this short notice we appreciate it would be difficult to sort out childcare arrangements for working parents.

There will still be an earlier staggered finish as communicated a few weeks ago.

Children in EYFS and Year 3, Year 3/4 and Year 4 will finish at 1.15pm

Children in Year 1, Year 1/2, Year 2, Year 5, Year 5/6 and Year 6 will finish at 1.30pm

Children should be collected from the usual doors or gates.

As always, if you have any further questions, or need support in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact school.

Take care and keep safe,

Mr Thompson and Mrs Athorn
