School Newsletter – Thursday 17th December 2020

What an amazing term we have had. As said in a previous newsletter it has been the strangest and hardest term I think we have ever known but by working together we have got to the end. The children have done us proud and, after so long away from school for many, they have adapted back into school life and routines and have had a successful term. The children have enjoyed Christmas parties this week and lots of other festive activities which has been lovely to see.

Donations

We have been blown away by the generosity that our families have shown.

We have delivered three full car loads of food to the food bank along with over one hundred advent calendars.

The Barnsley Hospice were overwhelmed with the staggering £7,716 that we raised for them from the Rudolph Run and couldn’t thank our families enough.

We would like to thank Roxy Watson for all her hard work fundraising for school. The three Staff Christmas Hampers (including Body Shop goodies donated by Roxy too) has raised an amazing £263 for school. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and to Roxy for running the raffle.

Parent Survey

We had 79 parents complete the online survey, which has now closed. I’ll send the results out in full after Christmas and we will be carefully considering the suggestions made. The overwhelming response was positive and I’ve shared many of the lovely comments with staff members.

Friday 18th December –earlier finish

There will be an earlier staggered finish tomorrow as previously communicated.

Children in EYFS, Year 3, Year 3/4 and Year 4 finish at 1.15pm

Children in Year 1, Year 1/2, Year 2, Year 5, Year 5/6 and Year 6 finish at 1.30pm

Children should be collected from the usual doors or gates.

We are all hoping that we will start to see things return to normal next term. Children return to school on Tuesday 5th January as we have an Inset day on Monday the 4th.

Holiday Contact

If you need to urgently contact school during the holiday, including to report a new positive case of Covid 19 with symptoms starting within 48 hours of being in school, please email Mr Thompson at d.thompson@shawlandsprimaryschool.co.uk. Emails will be checked daily at 12.00 midday. If we need to contact you about any positive cases being reported, we will use the School Gateway system which sends out emails to our parents and carers.

We would like to thank all our families for the support and generosity that you have shown this year and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Take care and keep safe
